As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, I’ve been fortunate to capture all kinds of weddings throughout the state. But Shiloh and Colin’s backyard tent wedding in Niagara definitely falls under the favorites category. It was a day centered simply around family and friends and the love that Shiloh and Colin have for one another, which is everything you need for a perfect wedding.

 

A Backyard Tent Wedding in Niagara, Wisconsin

Shiloh and Colin opted for a backyard wedding on the property where Colin grew up. The property was gorgeous – sprawling countryside with grassy fields and an old silo. They rented a tent for the reception and planned to have their ceremony in the middle of the field. Both of their families worked so hard to prepare the property for the party. It was so special to them to host the wedding there.

And while the vision for this day was simple and heartfelt, the weather had other plans. It turned out to be a wild wedding day, but in the best way possible. 

There was a torrential thunderstorm that led to power outages and last-minute timeline changes. It was unscripted, beautiful chaos for hours. 

We never actually made it to the field where the ceremony was intended. Instead, they were married under the reception tent. All the guests gathered underneath, and you could hear the rain hitting the tent. It felt romantic and cozy.

The rain wound up clearing in time for cocktail hour, and everyone had fun hanging out outside. We were even lucky to have the sun peek through the clouds a little bit during dinner, and I was able to sneak Shiloh and Colin outside for some golden hour portraits. 

These two partied the rest of the night away and had a total blast. They had bottles of wine on every table with photos from their skiing engagement session – a little nod to the shoot we did together, and honestly so cute. Shiloh even served a round of shots and was an incredibly fun bride. I loved this wedding so much. Congratulations, Shiloh and Colin!
